Tusker - Corbett National Park

Elephants often considered as a symbol of good luck, success, wisdom and experience, are found in isolated pockets of India and are known as ‘Asian Elephants'. Asian Elephants stand 8-10 feet tall and adult elephants eat around 330 pounds a day. Their skin is brown to dark grey in colour. Since 1986, Since 1986, the Asian elephant has been listed as Endangered. Indian elephants have smaller ears, but relatively broader skulls and larger trunks than African elephants. Toes are large and broad.

The Tusker (in the picture) was captured at Jim Corbett National park, while blocking the way and showcasing his power and strength to the visitors.

Steppe Eagle - Keoladeo National Park

They are large and brown with a short rounded tail. The male Steppe Eagle may weigh 2-5 kilograms and females may weigh 3-6 kilograms. It is one of the endangered species and could be seen migrating to India during winter. They are flexible with their choice of a spot for making a nest for themselves. Juvenile has road white bar across underwing, double white bar on upperwing.

Rajveer is an amazing nature guide. He was our local guide on a trip arranged by National Geographic. The trip was to see tigers and also included some major cultural sites. What we didn’t expect was to have a guide with such a range of experience in nature—he was not only great with Indian mammals, but he was also superb with the birds. I ended up seeing over 150 species of birds on the trip, like this Rose-ringed Parakeet I photographed at the Taj Mahal when I was supposed to be focusing on the building.
